Cavity Fillings

ProviDent Dental Group

Overview

We help combat tooth decay in Burbank and repair teeth whether your cavity comes from cracked or bad teeth or you are in need of replacing old amalgam fillings with the best quality tooth colored composites

Tooth decay is the destruction of the outer surface of your tooth called the enamel. It is a problem for every person no matter your age and it should be prevented or filled before something more harmful occurs, such as infection or extraction. Plaque, which causes deterioration of the enamel, is a sticky film of bacteria that is constantly forming on your teeth. The sugar you eat combines with the bacteria which produce acids that attack your teeth. The stickiness of the plaque keeps this acid in contact with your teeth and will eventually break down your enamel, causing cavities, which will need to be corrected with cavity fillings.

What To Expect During a Cavity Filling

Typically cavity fillings at our Burbank office are routine procedures with very minimal amount of discomfort. The steps involved are:

  • Local anaesthesia is used to make you comfortable
  • Removal of all decay with a drill or air abrasion (if small enough)
  • Composite material is packed into the cavity
  • Filling is shaped to allow for normal chewing and biting
